Cat Food Allergies Can Be an Uncomfortable Situation For Your Pet

Similar to many other allergic reactions, cat food allergies are marked by itchy skin. Of course because the symptoms are the same as other allergies it can be difficult to know. Something that might tip you off is the frequency or regularity of the itching. If your cats diet stays the same all year round and they have itchy skin all year round then cat food allergies may well be to blame. If the cat does not respond to regular treatment for allergies then this may also be a good indicator.

Cat Food Allergies Something that you can do to avoid the prevalence of your cats allergies is to steer clear of the kinds of foods that generally cause them. Unfortunately, many of the very common ingredients that you will find in cat food are the ones that cause cat food allergies. Things like gluten, soy, corn, dairy products or seafood are all very common causes of food allergies.

It can be difficult to stay away from these things entirely, but if you start to read labels you can begin to eliminate one of them for a period of time. If there are no changes to your cats symptoms, then you can go on to removing the next item and see if that helps. You may be able to successfully isolate the culprit.

Cat Food Allergies You might be wise to try something radical if your pet is having serious problems. You can introduce a kind of food that they have not had before at all and feed them something like a combination of beef and potato for a couple of months. Make sure that you do not allow them to get near the food of other cats that might live in the house or allow them to wander around and find food that they might be allergic to.
